Emmy Winners: ‘Modern Family,’ ‘Mad Men,’ ‘Temple Grandin’ Get Gold

Television’s newcomers and underdogs ruled the 2010 Emmys, with the ABC comedy “Modern Family” and the HBO movie “Temple Grandin” picking up many of the night’s major awards.

“Modern Family” beat out Fox’s “Glee” to win the Emmy for best comedy series. The two much-lauded freshmen series went head to head in a number of categories and inspired skits featured in NBC’s three-hour-long Emmy telecast.

“Glee’s” finger prints were all over the opening song and dance, which starred the show’s cast and featured cameos by Kate Gosselin, Betty White, Jon Hamm, and Tina Fey. “Modern Family” got its moment during a mock plot brainstorming session that tried to work George Clooney into the show about a motley group of relatives.

2010 Emmy Awards: ‘Modern Family’ triumphs, ‘Mad Men’ wins again

Modern Family triumphed with trophies for best comedy, best supporting actor and writing, while Mad Men won its third consecutive Emmy for best drama at the 62nd Primetime Emmys, held Sunday in Los Angeles and broadcast on NBC.

HBO, as usual, ruled in the movies categories, with multiple wins for Temple Grandin and the miniseries The Pacific. Al Pacino also won for You Don’t Know Jack.

Wins for ABC’s freshman comedy began early with trophies for creators Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd for writing, and co-star Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker), who accepted the prize for supporting actor by saying “all I wanted to be was a clown in the circus when I was a kid growing up.” When accepting the Emmy for best comedy, Levitan gave a shout-out to all the show’s fans, big and small. “We are so thrilled that families are sitting down together to watch a television show, and we just wanted to say we are so happy that you have let us into your families,” he said on stage, with the full cast behind him. Indonesian Volcano Erupts Again, Bigger Than Before

The number of people forced to be evacuated due to the eruption of a volcano in Sumatra island, Indonesia, may rise to 34,000, spokesman of National Disaster Management Agency Priyadi Kardono said on Monday.

On Monday, more than 27,000 people have escaped their homes, he said.

The smoke from the eruption has also disturbed the flight from western area toward main airport, Palonia, in North Sumatra province, Airport Duty Manager at Polonia airport Agus Maulana said.

“Today a plane operated by Susi Air from Sibolga cancels flight to Polonia because of the smoke,” he told Xinhua over phone from the province.

The 2,400-meter high Mount Sibabung erupted for the second time on earlier Monday and spew ash and smoke up to more than 2,000 meters high and they keep enveloping the sky by Monday afternoon. (more…)

HBO’s critically acclaimed “Temple Grandin” told the remarkable real-life story of the bestselling author and groundbreaking agricultural scientist who struggled early in life to learn to cope with autism before the disease was widely known.

On Sunday, the biopic, which had to overcome what was widely perceived in the industry as challenging subject matter to make its way to the screen, claimed five Emmy prizes, including outstanding made for TV movie.

Attired in red and black rodeo gear, Grandin herself became a palpable presence at the ceremony, at one point, rising and excitedly swinging her hand lasso style from the audience. And while standing on stage after the movie had won its top award, she warmly embraced a sobbing executive producer Emily Gerson Saines, who said she found inspiration in Grandin’s life story as her own child had been diagnosed with autism. Andrew Koenig:Andrew Koenig played the character “Boner” in the TV series “Growing Pains”. He became very famous for his role and is now offered by many existing jobs from different manufacturers, but he refused all of them in February 2010 and disappeared on February 14, 2010. He sent his father a letter, the 16 th, and then family members Koenig started looking for him.

On February 28, 2010 Koenig was found dead, hanging from a tree. It was reported that he had hanged himself and committed suicide. His body was found in a park in Vancouver. He hanged himself in a very deep part of the park and places it clear that he does not want to be found.

It was a very difficult time for his family, especially parents. Andrew Koenig was 41 years old, and he did a great acting career just like his father, who played the character of Chekhov in the original Star Trek. “Father Andrew had an emotional press conference to talk about it, and why he committed suicide.

An LDS View On Glenn Beck & The ‘Restoring Honor’ Rally

Conservative commentator Glenn Beck says his revival-style rally at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday was about restoring America’s honor and returning the country to the values on which it was founded.

Tens of thousands of people showed up for the event, which also featured former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Beck insists the rally was nonpolitical, but the event, which took place on the 47th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, and in the same place, was not without controversy.

The message: Support the troops; return to God.

Beck said his role was to wake America up to the backsliding of principles, values and most importantly, faith. His speech took on a spiritual tone as Beck urged the country to “turn back to God.”

“Look forward. Look West. Look to the heavens. Look to God and make your choice,” he said.
