National University (NU) matched defending champion Ateneo de Manila University’s immaculate 4-0 record on Saturday by ripping apart De La Salle-Zobel quintet, 74-62 to share the top spot in the 73rd UAAP juniors basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena.

Banking on its cerebral quarterbacking, hustle and quickness, NU ably neutralized the taller and heftier Junior Archers’ patented halfcourt trapping defense with a spate of fastbreak lay-ups, resulting in 30 transition points that proved too much for the visibly lost Season 72 runners-up who only managed 7 points in the entire third quarter.

Equally hurting La Salle was the Bullpups’ 20 assists mostly from outlet feeds which repeatedly forced the Junior Archers to give up cheap fouls to break the transition play.

With his shooting guns triggering one run after the other, burly guard Roque Estoce again led the Bullpups on a near-flawless 3-of-4 sniping from beyond en route to a team-high 23 points plus 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks.

The Bullpups unleashed a dizzying 18-2 salvo bridging the third and fourth quarters to post the biggest lead of the game at 58-28 and virtually lock the count in favor of NU.

Yet La Salle did not surrender without a fight as the Junior Archers went on an 8-2 surge to inch closer at 61-48. But 2 free throws and a jumper form Jonel Parungao kept the Junior Archers at bay, 65-48, with 4:17 left to play.

La Salle finalized the tally by clustering 8 straight points, including 6 from the stripe.

Alexander Torres led the Junior Archers with 28 points while Joseph Tempongko added 10.

Estoce got ample support from Parungao and Kevin Lara who chipped in 18 and 10 points, respectively. Prior to NU’s clinical dismantling of La Salle, the Eaglets grounded the low-flying Adamson University Baby Falcons, 78-61, in the third game with Ateneo big man Von Pessumal registering a career-high 23 points on top of 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

In other matches, University of Santo Tomas walloped University of the Philippines Integrated School, 120-69, behind the 37-point, 11-rebound explosion of Kevin Ferrer, while Far Eastern University trounced University of the East, 93-68.

The reserve has not been explored extensively in well over a decade.
Concordia and 85,000 received a grant through the State Farm Youth Advisory Board in the spring that will finance a project for the reserves, and other service-learning activities.
“There has never been a comprehensive study to know exactly what kind of plants and animals are out there,” said Michael Moyer, dean of the Faculty of Concord.Concordia moved its campus from downtown Austin to the 386-acre tract of land near RM 620 and RM 2222 in 2008. Approximately 250 acres of the property is part of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, or BCP. The BCP is made up of about 28,500 acres around Travis County and was created to protect the habitat of eight endangered species and 27 other at-risk species, while at the same time allowing development to occur.

Travis County helps manage the Concordia Preserve, and access is limited.
“You can only go in there if you have a scientific reason and that in itself has to be approved, both by the university and by individuals from Travis County,” Moyer said.

Oakland Community College,Demand for higher education community is on the rise, but many institutions are detrimental both financially, reducing income tax on the property to leave them substantially hiking the fees.
“It’s devastating,” said Curtis Ivery, Chancellor of Wayne County Community College District, where tuition is growing 16% this year, with a $ 67.65 credit hour to $ 79 credit hours. There, the property tax revenue – a major source of funding – is projected to have declined by almost 20% from 2009 to 2010.

Things kick off with a little star power July 24 as acclaimed pianist Jon Nakamatsu joins the orchestra for a tribute to American composers. And Mercury News sports columnist Mark Purdy will be narrating “Casey at the Bat” during the Family Day ice cream social on July 25.

The series continues July 30 to Aug. 1 with concerts focusing on the salsa sounds of New York City, the ladies of Broadway and the “Hit Parade” sounds of the 1940s and ’50s.

The best thing about the evening concerts — which all take place on the grassy Paseo de San Carlos mall at San Jose State University — is that they don’t cost a dime to attend.

Bottles of water are provided, and they’ll be dishing out free ice cream for both 5:30 p.m. Sunday shows. Shows other nights begin at 7 p.m.

Mr. Rock now isn’t active in venture deals but is still investing—particularly in Bay Area corporate governance and education issues through philanthropic grants. In a recent discussion, he reflected on the growth of Silicon Valley’s venture-capital industry, Bay Area malfeasance and why he doesn’t own an iPad.

WSJ: What role has venture capital played in the evolution of Silicon Valley?

Mr. Rock: Let’s go back to 1957, when together with some colleagues I put together Fairchild Semiconductor. I realized there were a number of companies starting in the technology field but lacked capital, and all the capital was on the East Coast. So I decided to move out here and form a venture-capital firm—with Tommy Davis called Davis & Rock. So we were able to bring capital from the East Coast to what was to become Silicon Valley.

In mathematics, the Poincaré conjecture is a theorem about the characterization of the three-dimensional sphere among three-dimensional manifolds. Originally conjectured by Henri Poincaré, the claim concerns a space that locally looks like ordinary three-dimensional space but is connected, finite in size, and lacks any boundary (a closed 3-manifold). The Poincaré conjecture claims that if such a space has the additional property that each loop in the space can be continuously tightened to a point, then it is necessarily a three-dimensional sphere. An analogous result has been known in higher dimensions for some time.
The Poincaré conjecture concerns the three-dimensional equivalent of this situation. It asserts that if any loop in a closed three-dimensional space without boundary can be shrunk to a point without tearing either the loop or the space, then the space is equivalent to a three-dimensional sphere.
In March 2010, the Clay Mathematics Institute (CMI) of Cambridge, Massachusetts, announced that Perelman, 43, would be awarded the prize for proving the Poincare conjecture, one of seven problems on the institute’s Millennium Prize list.
In June, Perelman did not appear at a ceremony in Paris to collect the prize and did not inform CMI about his decision regarding the money.
The Poincare conjecture, which was first proposed by Henri Poincare in 1904, says that a three-sphere is the only type of bounded three-dimensional space possible that contains no holes.
Perelman presented proof on the conjecture in 2002 and 2003. Several high-profile teams of mathematicians have since verified the correctness of his proof.
In 2006, Perelman refused to attend a congress in Madrid where he was to receive a Fields Medal, often called the Nobel Prize of mathematics.
Perelman, who lives in a small apartment in St. Petersburg with his elderly mother, is unemployed and neighbors say he lives in poverty. He has rejected job offers at several top U.S. universities.
43-year-old mathematician Grigory Perelman decided to reject a million dollar prize given to him by a U.S. institute. This was called the “Millennium Prize” by the Clay Mathematics Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Grigory Perelman, who lives with his mother in St. Petesburg was awarded the prize for proving of a theorem known as the Poincare conjecture.

Perelman blamed the “unjust” decisions of the “organized mathematician community” for his decision, saying American mathematician Richard Hamilton, ignored by the institute, had contributed to proving the theorem no less than Perelman himself.

Student Loans at Studentloans.gov: The site Studentloans.gov is for students across the United States who need information from the U.S department of Education for Educational Loans and student loans
There are many documents that need to be checked before applying for a student loan. What a student can do through this site is, manage their loan totally with all information and direction.
There are other resources like student aid which also has similar direct loan facilities that would help a student get a loan. The U.S department of education is making it easier for students and adults to pursue their studies right up-to their graduation and not just high school.

This helps in avoiding loans from different arenas which mostly has a huge pay back amount in the form of interest or hidden fees and costs.
