Brandon Phillips on the St. Louis Cardinals before Monday’s game: “I’d play against these guys on one leg. We have to beat these guys. All they do is bitch and moan about everything, all of them. They’re little bitches, all of them. I really hate the Cardinals. Compared to the Cardinals, I love the Chicago Cubs. Let me make this clear: I hate the Cardinals.” The Cardinals then beat the Reds, 7-3. Phillips went 0 for 5. Karma? Perhaps. Either way, at least this saga led to this great “headline.”From there a number of shoving, yelling and wrestling matches erupted, including one involving Baker and La Russa, one involving Reds outfielder Jonny Gomes, who had his jersey torn, and another in which starting pitcher Johnny Cueto was seen kicking another player on television replays.

Odds are Molina was upset by Phillips’ comments from a day earlier.

Hobbled by a leg injury heading into this week’s NL Central showdown with the Cardinals, Phillips said he would play “with one leg” against St. Louis.

His reason: “I hate the Cardinals. All they do is (complain) and moan about everything, all of them. They’re little (expletives), all of ‘em. I really hate the Cardinals. Compared to the Cardinals, I love the Chicago Cubs. Let me make this clear — I hate the Cardinals.”
