— Entering his 15th season, Terrell Owens has arguably been the NFL’s most productive receiver over the course of his career and is likely to conclude it as a Hall of Famer … not that he’s counting on it.

But whether or not he finishes in Canton, Owens remains grateful for beginning his professional journey alongside Jerry Rice, who received his golden jacket over the weekend.

“What Jerry’s done for the game is unthinkable,” said Owens, who texted Rice a message of congratulations on Saturday.

Owens honed his craft while apprenticing under Rice with the San Francisco 49ers from 1996-2000. Barring injury, he could rank second to Rice in career receiving yards (Owens is currently third all-time with 14,951) and touchdowns (third, 144) by season’s end, though New England Patriots wideout Randy Moss (14,465/148) has been jockeying with T.O. on the all-time charts for years.

Owens held one record Rice never did: most receptions in a game (20), though Brandon Marshall upped it to 21 last season while with the Denver Broncos. But Owens set the mark in 2000 during Rice’s final home game as a 49er, emblematic to some that there weren’t enough balls to go around at Candlestick Park and expediting Rice’s subsequent move across the bay to the Oakland Raiders.

Owens disputes that there was a clash of egos.

“A lot of people would probably say that there was tension between us or what have you,” he said Sunday. “But there never was. I’ve always thought very, very highly of Jerry.
