The new Miss USA 2010 winner has been crowned. Miss Michigan; Rima Fakih has won the coveted 2010 title of Miss USA.
The top five finalists included Miss Michigan, Miss Virginia, Miss Maine, Miss Colorado and Miss Oklahoma.
Miss USA 2009 Kristen Dalton relinquished her crown tonight to Rima Fakih, who is ready to embark on a year of traveling the world and working to help those less fortunate.
I hope that Miss USA 2010, Rima Fakih, can stay away from the bad press that has surrounded some pageant contestants and winners in recent years. I think she spoke eloquently and her answers didn’t sound trite or rehearsed. I would like to think she is the person she claims to be, and brings honor to the United States.
I competed in a number of scholarship and beauty pageants when I was a much younger woman, and used the money to go to college. I remember the stress that went with pageant competition, and sadly it made it so the pageants weren’t all that much fun. Some contestants were out for blood, and thier parents had even hired coaches for them to work with them for months prior to the pageant. It’s a very different world, and I must say I’m glad that neither of my daughters went that route.
